The Wish behind the problem
It is important to understand why you want to solve a problem. In which direction do you want to find the answer? What is the desired future? You have to view the problem in a broader context.
Talk with the client/customer/team. What is their vision/mission? If this problem is solved, how does it contribute to the desired future?
Start to ask yourself the “Wonder Question”. You wake up tomorrow and the problem is solved. What does it look like? What is different? Write for at least 5 minutes without taking your pen from the paper.
Which desires, wishes and dreams are there?
Formulate at least 10 wishes, starting with:
It would be great if…..
I would like….
I wish…..
Select the wish which puts the biggest smile on your face. Research has shown that positive emotions give a bigger chance of creating new ideas.
Check if the wish connects with the vision of the client/manager/organization. In other words: does it fit in the bigger picture?
